Description of the Fataga and Ansite Jeep Safari

Description

About the Fataga and Ansite Jeep Safari tour in Gran Canaria

Fancy trying a different kind of tour? You’re going to love this 4x4 Jeep Tour of Gran Canaria’s wilder side. The adventure begins in Maspalomas and takes you to the Degollada de las Yeguas viewpoint, the Valley of a Thousand Palm Trees in Fataga and the historic Ansite Fortress. Discover the south of Gran Canaria on a jeep safari that has it all!

About the Jeep Safari experience to Fataga and Ansite

The Jeep Safari to Fataga and Ansite is a half-day off-road excursion in a convoy, with a maximum of six passengers per vehicle, ideal for those looking for a complete, adventurous experience without taking up the whole day. The route links the major viewpoints, villages and historic sites in the south of Gran Canaria, from the heights of the Degollada de las Yeguas to the heart of Fortaleza de Ansite.

The price includes collection from your hotel in the southern tourist areas, the 4x4 tour with an experienced driver, commentary in your language and third-party liability insurance. Food and drink are not included, although you’ll have time for a coffee in the village of Fataga.

From the Las Yeguas Viewpoint to Ansite Fortress

The adventure gets off to a flying start in Maspalomas, next to the iconic Parque Sur. In a matter of minutes, the 4x4 takes your up to the first major highlight of the day: the Degollada de las Yeguas viewpoint. From this natural balcony, you can admire the vastness of the Fataga Gorge (the island’s ‘Grand Canyon’) with a view stretching from the dunes to the highest peaks.

Then we descend into the heart of the valley to explore the picturesque village of Fataga, the ‘Valley of a Thousand Palm Trees’. Its cobbled streets and white houses showcase the island’s most authentic architecture: the perfect place to have a coffee, stretch your legs and soak up the tranquillity of rural life in the Canary Islands. You’ll also have the opportunity to learn first-hand about aloe vera cultivation, the Canary Islands’ ‘green gold’, and its traditional uses in local healthcare.

Then we’ll continue our ascent towards the Caldera de Tirajana, a volcanic amphitheatre of imposing proportions. We’ll stop off at the beautiful village of Santa Lucía de Tirajana: its immaculate streets, iconic white-domed church and its olive groves form an oasis of greenery that contrasts with the reddish cliffs surrounding it.

The grand finale of our expedition awaits us at La Fortaleza de Ansite. This massive rock formation is not just a natural monument, but the last refuge of the island’s indigenous resistance. We’ll explore its caves and the famous natural tunnel, soaking up the history in every corner, before beginning our final descent towards the coast and the comfortable return journey to your hotel.
